The Headies 2024: A Night of Glitz, Glamour, and Technical Glitches

The 17th edition of The Headies, Nigeria’s premier music awards, took place on April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. After two consecutive editions held in Atlanta, the event returned to its roots, embracing the theme “Back to Base.” Hosted by the charismatic Nancy Isime, the ceremony aimed to celebrate the achievements of Nigerian artists over the past year.

Rema emerged as the night’s biggest winner, securing two awards from his nine nominations, including the coveted “Artist of the Year.” New categories such as “Soundtrack of the Year” and “Best Performer (Live)” were introduced, reflecting the evolving landscape of the Nigerian music industry.

However, the event was marred by technical difficulties and scheduling issues. Several major categories, including “Best R&B Single,” “Best Collaboration,” and “Best Rap Album,” were not announced due to time constraints and technical hitches. This abrupt ending left many attendees and viewers disappointed, sparking discussions on social media about the need for better event planning and execution.

Despite these setbacks, The Headies 2024 showcased the resilience and creativity of Nigerian artists. The return to Lagos was a nod to the country’s rich musical heritage, and the event highlighted the global impact of Nigerian music. As the industry continues to grow, stakeholders are hopeful that future editions will address the challenges faced this year, ensuring a seamless celebration of Nigeria’s musical talents.
