Buhari’s Remains Depart London For Burial In Daura

The body of former President Muhammadu Buhari has been flown out of London, United Kingdom, en route to Daura in Katsina State, where a state burial will be held in his honour.

His remains were transported on Tuesday aboard a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft just before 8 am, marking the beginning of formal funeral proceedings for the late Nigerian leader.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, and other senior government officials were among those who accompanied Buhari’s remains.

Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at around 4:30 p.m. in a London hospital after a prolonged illness. He was aged 82.

President Bola Tinubu is expected to receive his predecessor’s body in Katsina.

In honour of the late leader, the Federal Government has declared Tuesday a public holiday for his burial, which will take place in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
