MSC Group has signed a 45-year concession agreement with Nigerdock to develop a state-of-the-art container terminal at Snake Island Port (SIP) in Lagos. The company has also finalized an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with ITB Nigeria Ltd. and DEME Group for the terminal’s development. The project forms part of MSC Group’s investment in Nigeria’s infrastructure and logistics sector, totaling over USD 1 billion.
The terminal is designed with a 910-meter quay capable of operating Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and Mobile Harbor Cranes (MHC), serving both deep-sea vessels and barges. The project includes an initial dredging depth of -16.5 m Chart Datum (CD), aligned with the existing navigation channel, and a 30-hectare yard with potential expansion areas for hybrid Rubber-Tired Gantries (RTG).
MSC Group said the design is scalable to allow a future dredging depth of -18 m CD, enabling the terminal to accommodate larger vessels.
